# Focus Timer vs ShiftTap

The clearest difference is rating: ShiftTap at 5.0 against Focus Timer's 4.3. Focus Timer's advantage is review sentiment (80% vs 40%) and ratings volume (18 vs 1). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Focus Timer sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month and ShiftTap sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

ShiftTap holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Focus Timer has 18 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 80% of Focus Timer's written reviews are positive against 40% of ShiftTap's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Focus Timer ships an update fortnightly, ShiftTap every 8 days. The most recent releases landed on October 20, 2026 and October 10, 2026 respectively.
