# Filemail vs The Aster

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: The Aster at none against Filemail's 1. The Aster also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.6) and iOS requirement (15.6 vs 17.0). Filemail's advantage is ratings volume (10K vs 1). On price, update cadence, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Filemail sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $12.99 per month. The Aster asks for nothing beyond the download.

The Aster holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Filemail has 10K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on November 8, 2026 and November 3, 2026 respectively.
