# BeFreeVPN vs Secure Gate VPN Shield

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Secure Gate VPN Shield at 100% against BeFreeVPN's 60%. BeFreeVPN's advantage is rating (4.6 vs 4.3). On price, ratings volume, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. BeFreeVPN sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per 7 days and Secure Gate VPN Shield sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

BeFreeVPN holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.3. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 42 and 30 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 60% of BeFreeVPN's written reviews are positive against 100% of Secure Gate VPN Shield's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

BeFreeVPN ships an update every 2 weeks, Secure Gate VPN Shield every 9 days. Both last shipped on October 24, 2026.
