# GHP Reader vs REF

The clearest difference is monetization model: GHP Reader at free against REF's subscription. REF's advantage is update cadence (every 2 months vs every 5 months) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.1). On price, rating, ratings volume and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 1.0 for GHP Reader against 1.0 for REF. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 1 and 1 respectively.

GHP Reader ships an update every 5 months, REF every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 4, 2026 and September 26, 2026 respectively.
