# ESS Mobile vs BLOC Mobile

The clearest difference is rating: BLOC Mobile at 3.4 against ESS Mobile's 1.7. BLOC Mobile also leads on iOS requirement (10.3 vs 18.6). ESS Mobile's advantage is ratings volume (343 vs 7) and update cadence (every 3 months vs every 11 months). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

BLOC Mobile holds the better App Store score, 3.4 against 1.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: ESS Mobile has 343 ratings behind it against 7, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 3% of ESS Mobile's written reviews are positive against 0% of BLOC Mobile's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

ESS Mobile ships an update every 3 months, BLOC Mobile every 11 months. The most recent releases landed on October 17, 2026 and October 13, 2026 respectively.
