# Shady vs Topics Chat

The clearest difference is rating: Shady at 4.2 against Topics Chat's 3.0. Shady also leads on ratings volume (66 vs 2) and device support (3 vs 1). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Shady sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per 7 days and Topics Chat sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Shady holds the better App Store score, 4.2 against 3.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Shady has 66 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Shady ships an update every 6 days, Topics Chat every 9 days. The most recent releases landed on November 4, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
