# Shadow Node dVPN Lite vs Surflare VPN

The clearest difference is monetization model: Shadow Node dVPN Lite at free against Surflare VPN's free with in-app purchases. Shadow Node dVPN Lite also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.7) and review sentiment (100% vs 85%). Surflare VPN's advantage is update cadence (monthly vs every 3 months) and ratings volume (51 vs 8). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Shadow Node dVPN Lite sells 2 one-off in-app purchases and Surflare VPN sells 8 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Shadow Node dVPN Lite holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Surflare VPN has 51 ratings behind it against 8, so its average is the more settled of the two.
