# Notes for iPhone vs Ocean

The clearest difference is rating: Ocean at 5.0 against Notes for iPhone's 4.0. Notes for iPhone's advantage is monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases) and ratings volume (71 vs 1). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Notes for iPhone sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month and Ocean sells 8 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Ocean holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Notes for iPhone has 71 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Notes for iPhone ships an update weekly, Ocean every 8 days. Both last shipped on October 14, 2026.
