# Innovative Language Learning vs FluentU

The clearest difference is monetization model: Innovative Language Learning at free with in-app purchases against FluentU's subscription. Innovative Language Learning also leads on rating (4.7 vs 4.3) and ratings volume (34K vs 2.8K). FluentU's advantage is update cadence (fortnightly vs every 2 months). On price, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Innovative Language Learning sells 13 in-app purchases, starting at $7.99 per month and FluentU sells 12 in-app purchases, starting at $14.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Innovative Language Learning holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Innovative Language Learning has 34K ratings behind it against 2.8K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 67% of Innovative Language Learning's written reviews are positive against 56% of FluentU's.

Innovative Language Learning ships an update every 2 months, FluentU fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 25, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
