# GPS Speedometer vs Apex

The clearest difference is monetization model: GPS Speedometer at free with in-app purchases against Apex's subscription. GPS Speedometer also leads on ratings volume (108 vs 25) and iOS requirement (16 vs 18.0). Apex's advantage is review sentiment (100% vs 91%). On price, rating, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. GPS Speedometer sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $6.99 per 7 days and Apex sells 7 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

GPS Speedometer holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.4. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 108 and 25 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 91% of GPS Speedometer's written reviews are positive against 100% of Apex's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

GPS Speedometer ships an update every 3 weeks, Apex monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 22, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
