# onX Hunt vs GPS OS Grid Reference

The clearest difference is ads: GPS OS Grid Reference at none against onX Hunt's shown. GPS OS Grid Reference also leads on review sentiment (90% vs 62%). onX Hunt's advantage is rating (4.9 vs 4.4) and update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 3 months). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. onX Hunt sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $14.99 per month and GPS OS Grid Reference sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per year. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

onX Hunt holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: onX Hunt has 275K ratings behind it against 17, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 62% of onX Hunt's written reviews are positive against 90% of GPS OS Grid Reference's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

onX Hunt ships an update every 2 weeks, GPS OS Grid Reference every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and October 26, 2026 respectively.
