# Wick vs Scholarly

The clearest difference is monetization model: Wick at free with in-app purchases against Scholarly's subscription. Wick also leads on review sentiment (63% vs 26%) and device support (3 vs 1). Scholarly's advantage is rating (4.7 vs 4.2) and ads (none vs shown). On price and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Wick sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per month and Scholarly sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $6.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Scholarly holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Scholarly has 4.3K ratings behind it against 74, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 63% of Wick's written reviews are positive against 26% of Scholarly's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Wick ships an update every 9 days, Scholarly every 3 days. The most recent releases landed on October 30, 2026 and October 31, 2026 respectively.
