# Phone Security vs Octopus VPN

The clearest difference is monetization model: Octopus VPN at free with in-app purchases against Phone Security's subscription. Octopus VPN also leads on ads (none vs shown). Phone Security's advantage is chart position (#179 vs unranked) and ratings volume (3.3K vs 453). On price, rating, review sentiment and update cadence there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Phone Security sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per 7 days and Octopus VPN sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.6 for Phone Security against 4.4 for Octopus VPN. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Phone Security has 3.3K ratings behind it against 453, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 64% of Phone Security's written reviews are positive against 67% of Octopus VPN's.

Phone Security ships an update every 3 weeks, Octopus VPN monthly. Both last shipped on October 30, 2026.
