# No PMO vs SelfControl

The clearest difference is monetization model: No PMO at free with in-app purchases against SelfControl's subscription. No PMO also leads on update cadence (weekly vs every 6 months). SelfControl's advantage is ads (none vs shown). On price, rating, ratings volume and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. No PMO sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $3.49 per month and SelfControl sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.6 for No PMO against 4.8 for SelfControl. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 11 and 12 respectively.

No PMO ships an update weekly, SelfControl every 6 months. The most recent releases landed on October 20, 2026 and October 10, 2026 respectively.
