# Shimmer Browser vs Weblock Browser

The clearest difference is rating: Shimmer Browser at 5.0 against Weblock Browser's 4.4. Shimmer Browser also leads on monetization model (freemium vs subscription). Weblock Browser's advantage is review sentiment (75% vs 50%) and ratings volume (12 vs 2). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Shimmer Browser sells 4 one-off in-app purchases and Weblock Browser sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Shimmer Browser holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Weblock Browser has 12 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 50% of Shimmer Browser's written reviews are positive against 75% of Weblock Browser's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Shimmer Browser ships an update every 6 days, Weblock Browser every 5 days. The most recent releases landed on October 16, 2026 and October 12, 2026 respectively.
