# Hobby Kit vs SkinPal

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: SkinPal at none against Hobby Kit's 4. SkinPal also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.6) and update cadence (every 9 days vs every 6 weeks). Hobby Kit's advantage is ratings volume (16 vs 2). On price, ads, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Hobby Kit sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per 7 days. SkinPal asks for nothing beyond the download.

SkinPal holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Hobby Kit has 16 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Hobby Kit ships an update every 6 weeks, SkinPal every 9 days. The most recent releases landed on October 28, 2026 and October 7, 2026 respectively.
