# Encounter vs Upper

The clearest difference is update cadence: Upper at every 5 days against Encounter's every 2 weeks. Upper also leads on iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.1). Encounter's advantage is ratings volume (17 vs 1). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.9 for Encounter against 5.0 for Upper. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Encounter has 17 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Encounter ships an update every 2 weeks, Upper every 5 days. The most recent releases landed on October 30, 2026 and October 25, 2026 respectively.
