True AQI
Read full descriptionHide full description
What's the air like right now? True AQI shows the live air quality index (AQI) at the government monitoring station nearest to you, on India's National AQI scale set by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). WHY TRUE AQI SHOWS A DIFFERENT NUMBER FROM THE OFFICIAL AQI The official AQI you see in news and bulletins is a 24-hour average. It is the right number for tracking a day, but it can lag hours behind the air outside your window. True AQI uses the latest hourly readings from the same CPCB monitoring stations, on the same Indian scale, and shows them side by side with the official 24-hour average. Both numbers are correct. They answer different questions: "how was the last day?" and "how is the air now?" WHAT YOU CAN DO Check the AQI near you: Nearest opens with your closest station Compare Live vs Official: the live AQI next to the 24-hour average, and the gap between them Know what to do today: Vibe check gives plain advice on exercise, masks, windows and travel for the live reading Find any station: All Stations lists stations across India with live AQI. Search by station, city or state See the last 24 hours: a chart of live AQI against the official average, plus PM2.5, PM10, NO2, O3, CO and SO2 against their limits Share your city's air with a ready-made card MEET HAWA Hawa is a cloud whose face follows the air: sunglasses when it's Good, a mask when it's Poor. Six moods, one for each CPCB AQI level from Good to Severe, so you can read the air at a glance. QUESTIONS PEOPLE ASK Is it safe to go for a run today? Open Vibe check. It turns the live AQI into a clear call for exercise, from "go ahead" to "work out indoors". Where does the data come from? From continuous ambient air quality monitoring stations in the CPCB network. Each station shows when it last reported, so you know how fresh the reading is. Which cities does it cover? Every city with a monitoring station, including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Ahmedabad and Lucknow. What do the AQI levels mean? Good (0–50), Satisfactory (51–100), Moderate (101–200), Poor (201–300), Very Poor (301–400) and Severe (401 and above), as defined by CPCB. Why can the AQI go above 500? CPCB's official scale stops at 500. On the worst days, pollution can be higher than the level that scale was built to describe. Instead of capping the live reading at 500, True AQI extends the same scale, so you can see how far past Severe the air is. Anything above 400 is Severe either way, and the advice is the same: go out only if you must. Does it need my location? Only to find your nearest station. You can pick any station from the list instead. True AQI is for information and does not replace medical advice. If you have asthma or another health condition, follow your doctor's guidance on bad-air days.
