# Speech Start vs SayPlay

The clearest difference is rating: SayPlay at 5.0 against Speech Start's 4.1. Speech Start's advantage is monetization model (free with in-app purchases vs subscription) and ratings volume (318 vs 1). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Speech Start sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $49.99 per month and SayPlay sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $39.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

SayPlay holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.1. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Speech Start has 318 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Speech Start ships an update every 2 weeks, SayPlay weekly. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 31, 2026 respectively.
