Magic News is a newspaper that teaches you a language. Every day, real news stories are rewritten to match your level. Beginners get simple words and short sentences. As you improve, the stories grow with you. You are always reading something true, current and interesting, never "the cat is on the table." HOW IT WORKS 1. Pick the language you want to learn and tell us your level. 2. Read today's stories, rewritten just for you. 3. Tap any word you don't know for an instant explanation. It is saved to your word list. 4. Talk about the story with Maya, your AI tutor. She can even call your phone, just like a friend. READ THE NEWS AT YOUR LEVEL • Real stories from today, adapted to beginner, intermediate or advanced. • Build your own front page: pick the desks you care about, from Science and Tech to Sport and Culture, or add any topic you like. • Tap a word, get the meaning in a second, keep reading. • Every word you tap is remembered, so tomorrow's paper fits you better. TALK TO MAYA, YOUR AI TUTOR • Have a real voice conversation about any story. No booking, no classroom. • Maya rings your phone for practice calls. Answer, chat about the news, hang up smarter. • Prefer typing? Message her about any story instead. REMEMBER WHAT YOU LEARN • Word cards and quick reviews bring back the words you are about to forget. • A weekly review edition built from your own reading. • New to Korean, Japanese or Chinese? Script School teaches Hangul, Kana and Pinyin from zero. LISTEN LIKE A PODCAST • Every story has an Audio Edition for your commute, the gym or a walk. WATCH YOURSELF LEVEL UP • Comprehension scores, milestones and daily reading streaks. • Home screen widgets: today's front page, your streak and your saved words. 16 LANGUAGES English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Swedish, Polish, Turkish, Russian, Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese. Saycent
Read full descriptionHide full description
Saycent is a pronunciation and accent coach for English, Spanish and French. Say a word or a sentence and see it coloured sound by sound, with the sound we heard when one slips. Every score is strict and computed on your phone. Works offline after a one-time download (about 356 MB, Wi-Fi recommended). No account, and your voice is never uploaded. SEE AND HEAR WHAT YOU SAID • Your word coloured sound by sound, with a score for every sound (phoneme) • "What we heard": when one sound clearly comes out as another, Saycent can name it, for example /s/ instead of /θ/, with a mouth-position tip and a next step • Play back your own take, then hear the coach at normal speed or slowed down • Tips matched to your native language (14 languages) • Sounds shown in IPA, with an American or British reference voice TRAIN YOUR EARS A 1-minute listening drill: hear one word of a pair like think/sink or ship/sheep and pick the one you heard. No mic needed, and it works while the speech model is still downloading. EXAM-STYLE SPEAKING PRACTICE (ENGLISH) Read a passage aloud, or listen to a sentence and repeat it. You get a pronunciation score plus feedback on your pace, your pauses and how quickly you start speaking. Set your test date and a short checkpoint read shows how you are tracking. These are practice measurements, not official exam scores. PRACTISE YOUR OWN WORDS • Your own text: paste a script, a speech, a job-interview answer or names you need to get right, and practise it sentence by sentence • Word lists: paste a list from your teacher (up to 20 words) and drill one word per card • Phone & spelling: letters, numbers and call phrases that get misheard on the phone • Words you missed come back later for review • Send to my teacher: after a session, share a short report (image or text) with your words, best scores and the sound to work on. No audio is included. STRICT, NOT FLATTERING Saycent's scores are strict on purpose. It would rather flag a sound you can still improve than hand out a flattering 95%. Treat a red sound as "practise this", not as a verdict. Over 12,000 more words can now be scored. STAY CONSISTENT A daily streak with rest days (earn one for every 7 practice days), XP, and a progress view of your weakest sounds. Reach a streak milestone or fix a sound and you can earn a free Premium pass for 1 to 3 days. ENGLISH, SPANISH AND FRENCH Coach your English, Spanish or French pronunciation: switch the language you are learning at any time. Exam-style practice and Your own text are English-only for now. The app's menus are in English. FREE vs PREMIUM (what you actually get) Free, forever: • The full Foundations unit of the learning path • Word, minimal-pair and Phone & spelling drills, and Your own text • 2 practice sessions a day (a session counts only once you record) • Train your ears and the first-run sound check, without using a session • 1 Explore word a day • 1 exam-style read-aloud item a day • Your 2 weakest sounds on the Progress screen Saycent Premium: • Unlimited practice sessions and Explore words • Full exam-style practice sets (read aloud + repeat sentence) • The full learning path: Sharpen, Sound Pairs and Connected Speech • Smart Review: an adaptive drill built from all your weak sounds • Sentence and connected-speech workouts • Your complete per-sound breakdown Premium is a monthly or yearly auto-renewing subscription. Prices vary by region: your price is shown in the app and on the App Store payment sheet before you confirm. Free trial for new subscribers: the payment sheet shows how long it lasts and the date it ends. Cancel anytime in your Apple Account settings, at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Saycent is for education and practice. It is not speech therapy, and its scores are not official exam scores. Saycent is not affiliated with or endorsed by any exam provider. Verdict
The clearest difference is update cadence: Magic News at every 4 days against Saycent's every 5 weeks. Saycent's advantage is device support (3 vs 1) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 17.6). On price, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.
