# Trouble Tree vs Ashtray

The clearest difference is monetization model: Ashtray at freemium against Trouble Tree's subscription. Ashtray also leads on update cadence (daily vs fortnightly). Trouble Tree's advantage is ratings volume (4 vs 1) and iOS requirement (15.1 vs 17.0). On price, rating, review sentiment and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Trouble Tree sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month and Ashtray sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 5.0 for Trouble Tree against 5.0 for Ashtray. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 4 and 1 respectively. Written reviews split almost evenly too, at 100% and 100% positive.

Trouble Tree ships an update fortnightly, Ashtray daily. The most recent releases landed on November 4, 2026 and November 5, 2026 respectively.
