# Luna Reader vs BeFluent

The clearest difference is monetization model: Luna Reader at free with in-app purchases against BeFluent's subscription. Luna Reader also leads on rating (4.8 vs 4.3) and update cadence (every 3 days vs every 9 days). BeFluent's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and iOS requirement (15.1 vs 26.0). On price, review sentiment, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Luna Reader sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per month and BeFluent sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $19.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Luna Reader holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Luna Reader has 40 ratings behind it against 7, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 91% of Luna Reader's written reviews are positive against 83% of BeFluent's.

Luna Reader ships an update every 3 days, BeFluent every 9 days. The most recent releases landed on October 30, 2026 and October 31, 2026 respectively.
