# Sonic vs Sea Shell Identifier

The clearest difference is monetization model: Sonic at free with in-app purchases against Sea Shell Identifier's subscription. Sea Shell Identifier's advantage is review sentiment (78% vs 60%) and ratings volume (242 vs 26). On price, rating, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Sonic sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days and Sea Shell Identifier sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.3 for Sonic against 4.4 for Sea Shell Identifier. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Sea Shell Identifier has 242 ratings behind it against 26, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 60% of Sonic's written reviews are positive against 78% of Sea Shell Identifier's.

Sonic ships an update weekly, Sea Shell Identifier every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on November 4, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
