# Dead Format vs VinylAlert

The clearest difference is update cadence: Dead Format at weekly against VinylAlert's every 6 weeks. Dead Format also leads on ratings volume (112 vs 1) and iOS requirement (15.0 vs 18.2). VinylAlert's advantage is monetization model (free vs ad-supported). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 5.0 for Dead Format against 5.0 for VinylAlert. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Dead Format has 112 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Dead Format ships an update weekly, VinylAlert every 6 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 14, 2026 and October 2, 2026 respectively.
