# Dead Format vs Deadwax

The clearest difference is rating: Dead Format at 5.0 against Deadwax's 4.7. Dead Format also leads on ratings volume (108 vs 15) and iOS requirement (15.0 vs 17.0). Deadwax's advantage is monetization model (free vs ad-supported). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Dead Format holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Dead Format has 108 ratings behind it against 15, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Dead Format ships an update weekly, Deadwax every 6 days. Both last shipped on October 10, 2026.
