# Fathom vs Audio Transcription

The clearest difference is rating: Fathom at 4.8 against Audio Transcription's 2.6. Fathom also leads on review sentiment (69% vs 36%) and ratings volume (507 vs 5). Audio Transcription's advantage is monetization model (free with in-app purchases vs subscription) and ads (none vs shown). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Fathom sells 8 in-app purchases, starting at $6.99 per month and Audio Transcription sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Fathom holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 2.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Fathom has 507 ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 69% of Fathom's written reviews are positive against 36% of Audio Transcription's.

Fathom ships an update weekly, Audio Transcription fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 28, 2026 respectively.
