# SmartBlock vs Group Expenses

The clearest difference is rating: SmartBlock at 5.0 against Group Expenses's 4.5. Group Expenses's advantage is update cadence (every 4 days vs every 3 weeks) and ratings volume (15 vs 1). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. SmartBlock sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days and Group Expenses sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

SmartBlock holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Group Expenses has 15 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

SmartBlock ships an update every 3 weeks, Group Expenses every 4 days. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 8, 2026 respectively.
