# Mist vs Island

The clearest difference is monetization model: Island at free against Mist's free with in-app purchases. Island also leads on review sentiment (100% vs 83%). Mist's advantage is ratings volume (563 vs 17) and update cadence (every 2 days vs every 4 days). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Mist sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $7.99 per month and Island sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.9 for Mist against 4.8 for Island. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Mist has 563 ratings behind it against 17, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 83% of Mist's written reviews are positive against 100% of Island's.

Mist ships an update every 2 days, Island every 4 days. Both last shipped on October 25, 2026.
