# Ocean vs GenMail

The clearest difference is monetization model: GenMail at free against Ocean's free with in-app purchases. GenMail also leads on ratings volume (17 vs 1) and iOS requirement (16.0 vs 18). Ocean's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 4.6). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Ocean sells 8 one-off in-app purchases and GenMail sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $149.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Ocean holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: GenMail has 17 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Ocean ships an update every 8 days, GenMail weekly. The most recent releases landed on October 30, 2026 and October 31, 2026 respectively.
