# EMB Tools vs Buddy VPN

The clearest difference is ratings volume: Buddy VPN at 6.6K against EMB Tools's 11. Buddy VPN also leads on device support (4 vs 2) and iOS requirement (15.0 vs 17.0). On price, rating, review sentiment and update cadence there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.6 for EMB Tools against 4.7 for Buddy VPN. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Buddy VPN has 6.6K ratings behind it against 11, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews split almost evenly too, at 95% and 94% positive.

EMB Tools ships an update fortnightly, Buddy VPN every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 16, 2026 and October 18, 2026 respectively.
