# Manic EMU vs KipFire

The clearest difference is monetization model: KipFire at freemium against Manic EMU's subscription. KipFire also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.7). Manic EMU's advantage is ratings volume (17K vs 3) and update cadence (fortnightly vs every 3 months). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Manic EMU sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month and KipFire sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $12.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

KipFire holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Manic EMU has 17K ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Manic EMU ships an update fortnightly, KipFire every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and October 10, 2026 respectively.
