# AP Prep vs Recess

The clearest difference is monetization model: AP Prep at freemium against Recess's subscription. AP Prep also leads on device support (3 vs 1) and ratings volume (28 vs 8). Recess's advantage is rating (4.9 vs 4.4) and update cadence (every 10 days vs monthly). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. AP Prep sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $7.99 per month and Recess sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $12.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Recess holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 4.4. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 28 and 8 respectively. Written reviews point the same way: 94% of AP Prep's written reviews are positive against 100% of Recess's.

AP Prep ships an update monthly, Recess every 10 days. The most recent releases landed on October 22, 2026 and October 17, 2026 respectively.
