# Visual IQ vs SpeakType

The clearest difference is ads: SpeakType at none against Visual IQ's shown. SpeakType also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.7). Visual IQ's advantage is ratings volume (52 vs 1) and update cadence (fortnightly vs every 6 weeks). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Visual IQ sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month and SpeakType sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

SpeakType holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Visual IQ has 52 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Visual IQ ships an update fortnightly, SpeakType every 6 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 13, 2026 respectively.
