# SPF vs Luminous

The clearest difference is rating: SPF at 4.6 against Luminous's 3.5. SPF also leads on ratings volume (5K vs 2) and chart position (#59 vs unranked). Luminous's advantage is review sentiment (50% vs 32%). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. SPF sells 7 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per 7 days and Luminous sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

SPF holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 3.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: SPF has 5K ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 32% of SPF's written reviews are positive against 50% of Luminous's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

SPF ships an update weekly, Luminous every 10 days. The most recent releases landed on October 28, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
