# Ember vs Journey

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Journey at 100% against Ember's 52%. Journey also leads on monetization model (free with in-app purchases vs subscription) and ads (none vs shown). Ember's advantage is ratings volume (709 vs 1). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Ember sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $14.99 per month and Journey sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Journey holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Ember has 709 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 52% of Ember's written reviews are positive against 100% of Journey's.

Ember ships an update weekly, Journey every 6 days. The most recent releases landed on October 30, 2026 and November 5, 2026 respectively.
