# Mechanic vs OBD Diagnostics

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Mechanic at none against OBD Diagnostics's 1. Mechanic also leads on ads (none vs shown) and iOS requirement (15.1 vs 26.2). On price, update cadence and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. OBD Diagnostics sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Mechanic asks for nothing beyond the download.

Mechanic ships an update every 2 months, OBD Diagnostics monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 7, 2026 and October 6, 2026 respectively.
