# Reading Journey vs ToRead

Reading Journey and ToRead both sit at 4.8 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of ToRead's written reviews are positive against 73% of Reading Journey's. ToRead also leads on monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases) and iOS requirement (18.0 vs 26.0). Reading Journey's advantage is ratings volume (389 vs 10) and update cadence (every 10 days vs every 4 weeks). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Reading Journey sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per month and ToRead sells 3 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.8 for Reading Journey against 4.9 for ToRead. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Reading Journey has 389 ratings behind it against 10, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 73% of Reading Journey's written reviews are positive against 100% of ToRead's.

Reading Journey ships an update every 10 days, ToRead every 4 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 30, 2026 and October 31, 2026 respectively.
