# Secure VPN vs Safety Layers

The clearest difference is rating: Secure VPN at 4.1 against Safety Layers's 3.0. Secure VPN also leads on ratings volume (164 vs 18) and update cadence (every 2 days vs every 4 days). Safety Layers's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 2) and ads (none vs shown). On price, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Secure VPN sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month. Safety Layers asks for nothing beyond the download.

Secure VPN holds the better App Store score, 4.1 against 3.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Secure VPN has 164 ratings behind it against 18, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 29% of Secure VPN's written reviews are positive against 54% of Safety Layers's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Secure VPN ships an update every 2 days, Safety Layers every 4 days. Both last shipped on October 24, 2026.
