# Esse vs Simple Focus Timer

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Simple Focus Timer at none against Esse's 4. Simple Focus Timer also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.7) and update cadence (every 3 days vs weekly). Esse's advantage is ratings volume (22 vs 1). On price, review sentiment, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Esse sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per 7 days. Simple Focus Timer asks for nothing beyond the download.
