# Checkmate vs ChessApp

The clearest difference is update cadence: ChessApp at every 9 days against Checkmate's monthly. ChessApp also leads on iOS requirement (15.1 vs 18.0). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Checkmate sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $17.99 per month and ChessApp sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Checkmate ships an update monthly, ChessApp every 9 days. The most recent releases landed on September 13, 2026 and September 17, 2026 respectively.
