# WeighCam vs SMS Virtual

The clearest difference is monetization model: WeighCam at free with in-app purchases against SMS Virtual's subscription. SMS Virtual's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (every 5 days vs every 3 weeks). On price, rating, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. WeighCam sells 8 in-app purchases, starting at $6.99 per 7 days and SMS Virtual sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.3 for WeighCam against 4.4 for SMS Virtual. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: SMS Virtual has 125 ratings behind it against 13, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 0% of WeighCam's written reviews are positive against 11% of SMS Virtual's.

WeighCam ships an update every 3 weeks, SMS Virtual every 5 days. The most recent releases landed on October 10, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
