# Protos vs Ballast

The clearest difference is update cadence: Ballast at every 5 days against Protos's every 3 weeks. Protos's advantage is iOS requirement (15.1 vs 26.1). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Protos sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per 7 days and Ballast sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Protos ships an update every 3 weeks, Ballast every 5 days. The most recent releases landed on October 11, 2026 and October 14, 2026 respectively.
