# Video Player vs PrimePlayer

The clearest difference is ads: PrimePlayer at none against Video Player's shown. PrimePlayer also leads on update cadence (every 2 days vs every 3 weeks) and rating (5.0 vs 4.6). Video Player's advantage is monetization model (free vs freemium) and ratings volume (47 vs 1). On price, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Video Player sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and PrimePlayer sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $1.69 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

PrimePlayer holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Video Player has 47 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Video Player ships an update every 3 weeks, PrimePlayer every 2 days. Both last shipped on October 25, 2026.
