# Softcover vs Book Tracker

The clearest difference is rating: Softcover at 4.3 against Book Tracker's 3.7. Book Tracker's advantage is update cadence (every 3 days vs every 6 weeks) and review sentiment (50% vs 33%). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Softcover sells 5 one-off in-app purchases and Book Tracker sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Softcover holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 3.7. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 3 and 9 respectively. Written reviews complicate that: 33% of Softcover's written reviews are positive against 50% of Book Tracker's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Softcover ships an update every 6 weeks, Book Tracker every 3 days. Both last shipped on October 28, 2026.
