# HankyDoodle vs Sand Shape

HankyDoodle and Sand Shape both sit at 4.5 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of HankyDoodle's written reviews are positive against 35% of Sand Shape's. HankyDoodle also leads on ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (every 2 days vs every 4 days). Sand Shape's advantage is ratings volume (585 vs 11) and iOS requirement (15.0 vs 18.0). On price, rating, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. HankyDoodle sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $3.99 per year and Sand Shape sells 14 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.5 for HankyDoodle against 4.6 for Sand Shape. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Sand Shape has 585 ratings behind it against 11, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 100% of HankyDoodle's written reviews are positive against 35% of Sand Shape's.

HankyDoodle ships an update every 2 days, Sand Shape every 4 days. The most recent releases landed on October 18, 2026 and October 17, 2026 respectively.
