# Luvu vs DoomFree

Luvu and DoomFree both sit at 4.6 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of DoomFree's written reviews are positive against 37% of Luvu's. Luvu's advantage is monetization model (free with in-app purchases vs subscription) and ratings volume (308 vs 9). On price, rating, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Luvu sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $19.99 per month and DoomFree sells 4 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.6 for Luvu against 4.6 for DoomFree. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Luvu has 308 ratings behind it against 9, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 37% of Luvu's written reviews are positive against 100% of DoomFree's.

Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly every 4 days. The most recent releases landed on October 17, 2026 and October 8, 2026 respectively.
