# Elixir vs English Bites

The clearest difference is monetization model: Elixir at freemium against English Bites's subscription. Elixir also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.6) and iOS requirement (16.0 vs 18.0). English Bites's advantage is ratings volume (170 vs 3) and update cadence (weekly vs every 2 weeks). On price, ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Elixir sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $9.99 per month and English Bites sells 9 in-app purchases, starting at $12.99 per 3 months. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Elixir holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: English Bites has 170 ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Elixir ships an update every 2 weeks, English Bites weekly. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 28, 2026 respectively.
