# Magic vs Transcribe by Descript

Magic and Transcribe by Descript both sit at 4.4 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of Transcribe by Descript's written reviews are positive against 61% of Magic's. Magic's advantage is ratings volume (127 vs 20). On price, rating, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Magic sells 11 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days and Transcribe by Descript sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $7.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Transcribe by Descript holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Magic has 127 ratings behind it against 20, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 61% of Magic's written reviews are positive against 100% of Transcribe by Descript's.

Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly weekly. The most recent releases landed on October 17, 2026 and October 19, 2026 respectively.
