# WoRD vs Shark Reader

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Shark Reader at none against WoRD's 3. Shark Reader also leads on ads (none vs shown) and rating (5.0 vs 4.6). WoRD's advantage is ratings volume (10 vs 1). On price, review sentiment, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. WoRD sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per 7 days. Shark Reader asks for nothing beyond the download.

Shark Reader holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: WoRD has 10 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews split almost evenly too, at 100% and 100% positive.

WoRD ships an update every 5 days, Shark Reader every 2 days. The most recent releases landed on October 12, 2026 and October 13, 2026 respectively.
