# DirtOS vs MeshTrail

The clearest difference is monetization model: MeshTrail at free against DirtOS's freemium. DirtOS's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 4.7) and device support (3 vs 1). On price, review sentiment, ratings volume and update cadence there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. DirtOS sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $49.99 per year and MeshTrail sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

DirtOS holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. Both are backed by a comparable volume of ratings — 3 and 3 respectively. Written reviews split almost evenly too, at 100% and 100% positive.

DirtOS ships an update fortnightly, MeshTrail every 9 days. The most recent releases landed on November 5, 2026 and October 31, 2026 respectively.
